Kuronti and Akwamu are two groups that together form the council of a town or village. Hence, the symbol represents democracy, sharing ideas, and taking council.

Being two distinct groups, they may each have their own individual interests but it is out of this tension that an acceptable consensus is forged to govern the whole.

The Centre for Democratic Development (CDD) in Ghana holds an annual lecture series called the Kronti ne Akwamu Lecture to discuss issues related to democratic development.
